Whiteley Creek Homestead

LIFE AT THE END OF A DIRT ROAD IN CENTRAL MINNESOTA

Oh, the pure joy that comes from meeting people as an innkeeper at Whiteley Creek Homestead Bed and Breakfast! Over the course of their six-day stay recently, I got to know two amazing women who chose to stay in the “out my kitchen window cabin”. Because of their extended stay, they politely asked if they could rearrange the cabin’s lower level to meet their needs and comfort. Since I love change in any form I eagerly said, “Go for it!”

They moved the table, that I had formerly positioned in the middle of the room, next to the window so they could enjoy the woods and birdfeeder outside. They invited me out to the cabin for an evening cup of tea. I brought dessert… peach rhubarb crisp. How fun…

Now when I finish cleaning the cabin, I sit a while at the table to rest and watch a wide assortment of birds enjoying lunch at the feeder. I have hung onto a card designed by Mary Englebreight for the longest time that has a quote by Marcel Proust on its front. “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.”
